Hostage & Negotiation
BYDAND has the worlds leading and most experienced Hostage Negotiators on our team. We are able to deploy them as part of one of our Security Advisor Teams anywhere in the world at short notice. Through intensive discussion with our clients we advise honestly and without self-regard when negotiation may be and when it may not be the best solution, as well as what terms are negotiable and that which are not. All hostage situations are different therefore it’s imperative that an expert in this field is present as soon as the incident starts. Our negotiators advise on all aspects of mitigating any threat and the use of special techniques for managing that flow of information during the crisis.
There are generally four types of hostage situations:
Our Hostage Negotiators have specialist skills set, that through years of practical experience have learnt to apply via conflict resolution. Generally these skills are used in situations that are tense, difficult, and can be very volatile; almost always where lives are at risk.
BYDAND'S negotiation team assist with criminal situations such as fleeing criminals who take hostages for cover, criminal activity that has gone wrong and hostage taking and kidnapping for profit. Hostage takers usually participate in two forms of taking, either the well-planned kidnap or the spontaneous reaction to an ever-changing situation. An experienced criminal may end up taking a hostage accidentally or as a consequence of flight. BYDANDs highly experienced negotiation team use their specialist skill set to communicate with the captor, defuse the situation and safely remove the hostage from the situation.
BYDAND'S team may be called upon when situations have the potential to escalate and spiral out of control due to the potential for previous interpersonal violence issues and/or mental health concerns. Domestic situations can arise from a dispute into a hostage/barricade situation with little or no warning. BYDANDs subject matter experts are here to contain the situation and assist in resolving the issues at hand.
BYDAND teams can be called upon to assist and facilitate Governments and their security forces in negotiations throughout the world. Through advice, planning and real life experiences BYDAND advise on how to deal with incidents that have the potential to dramatically damage their reputations, domestically and internationally. This type of incident provides the most difficult of negotiations as the terrorist may engage in disingenuous dialogue in order to draw in the security services and law enforcement services or ensure very high profile media coverage. Terrorism like this is usually highly planned with a specific target or multiple targets selected. The operation will likely be well thought out and well rehearsed before it takes place. It is therefore imperative that a trained and experienced negotiator is present to advise immediately after the incident begins.
Kidnap and Threat Extortion
In their various forms kidnappings can have devastating effects, not only on the victims, but also on a victims’ family, company or organisation, and on others connected to the crisis. They can lead to weeks, months and in some cases years of stressful and exhausting negotiations. An ill-considered kidnap or extortion negotiation response could have a very detrimental effect on the victim’s well being, increase the risk to other potential targets, and threaten the viability of a family, company or organisation. BYDAND uses the worlds most experienced negotiators whom have years of experience in resolving a number of high-end negotiation cases providing the best possible outcome to any kidnapping situation.
